Diane and I met up with Deb and Ben for an early Friday night dinner. None of us are big Riesling drinkers but decided it would go with most items on the menu so we pulled out a bottle Jesse gave to us over the holidays.
The 2009 Schafer-Frohlich Felseneck Riesling Trocken is a great “food” wine. Good acidity with a crisp, although somewhat simple finish. Strong citrus and grapefruit aromas led to crisp attack of acidity and minerality but the mid-palate and finish were a bit of a dud. It worked well for our meal however which was heavy on browned butter and creams that accompanied our gnocchi and fish:
