Due to a lot of traveling, haven’t had a chance to catalogue a couple important wines I had over the past month. Some quick tasting notes:
2009 Marco De Bartoli Grappoli del Grillo – I had this wine twice in the past month. First at Marea with Diane, Rory and Flora then at Manoj’s apartment with Indian food:
Medium lemon color led to a crisp, acidic palate that’s great with shellfish and seafood. Minerality that reminded me of Carricante and interesting to try a dry white that’s 100% Grillo. Went shockingly well with the Indian food – had enough lightness and acid to cut through the spices and work as a palate cleanser. Love this wine.
2006 Luciano Sandrone Nebbiolo d’Alba Valmaggiore – had this at home with Diane and Manoj while eating Turkish food:
My tasting notes right after drinking it: Deep aroma of red fruit. Cooked cherries and oak on the palate – well integrated tannins that start to show up more about an hour after it’s been poured. Good acidity and great with food. Expect this to continue to evolve over the next 3+ years at least.
